Discussion:
Main Steps For FULL System Mode
(too old to reply)

Hello,

I am installing the Full System Mode,i face many problems as i sent before :
http://www.mail-archive.com/gem5-***@gem5.org/msg04075.html

Actually i am confused as i have read the documentation for "Full System
Mode" and i think that there is something missing for clear understanding.

After building the gem5 with ISA x86,I spent a lot of time for installing
Full System Mode and i am still blocked to continue in my research.

So i am going to mention the main steps that i followed to install the Full
System Mode for ISA x86:

1. Download the two files "Full System Files" and "config files" from (
http://www.m5sim.org/Download).
2. Put the two files in one folder in the gem5 folder.
3. For mounting the image ,type the command : sudo python
util/gem5img.py mount ..../x86-system/disks/linux-x86.img /mnt
4. To umount the image ,type the command : sudo umount /mnt
5. Change in the sysPath.py as shown : path = ['/dist/m5/system' , '
......gem5/FullSystemStuff' ] (where FullSystemStuff is a folder that
contains the two files downloaded in step No.1).
6. Run gem5 in full system mode as shown: build/x86/gem5.opt
configs/example/fs.py
--kernel=....../gem5/FullSystemStuff/x86-system/binaries/x86_64-vmlinux-2.6.22.9
–disk-image=........./gem5/FullSystemStuff/x86-system/disks

So are these steps right to set up the Full System Mode or there are
missing steps ?

Should this step at "http://www.m5sim.org/Linux_kernel" included in the
previous steps ?

Please any help/clear explanation will be really Highly appreciated.

Thank you in advance for your time and help.

Best Regards

Hello,

First:
Although i followed this link for ISA x86,i am still having an error
message which is :
panic: Error opening /home/wael/gem5/disks/linux-bigswap2.img
So Does anyone the solution of this error ?

Second:
I didn't follow the steps at "http://www.m5sim.org/Linux_kernel",i followed
only the steps in my First comment (i.e.
http://www.mail-archive.com/gem5-***@gem5.org/msg00071.html ),so is this
right or wrong ?

Please i am stuck at the point of Full System Mode ,so any help/hint will
be highly appreciated.
Thank you so much in advance.

Hello Eng.Xuxin,

Really Thanks a lot for your support in this blocking issue.
Actually i downloaded the fullSystem for ALPHA ,then i copied
linux-bigswap2.img to the folder disks that contains the linux-x86.img
,then i typed the command:
command line: build/x86/gem5.opt configs/example/fs.py
--kernel=/home/wael/gem5/binaries/x86_64-vmlinux-2.6.22.9
--script=configs/boot/art.rcS
The OUTPUT:

So Does this mean that the full system is installed successfully ??

So Are these warnings affect the simulation results ?

Really again Thanks a lot for this support.

At this time you should telnet to localhost port 3458 to confirm if you
have a login prompt.

I notice something unusual in your log

"Listening for com_1 connection on port 3458"

usually it says "Listening for system connection on port x"

The message is from

http://grok.m5sim.org/xref/gem5/src/dev/terminal.cc

146 int p1, p2;
147 p2 = name().rfind('.') - 1;
148 p1 = name().rfind('.', p2);
149 ccprintf(cerr, "Listening for %s connection on port %d\n",
150 name().substr(p1+1,p2-p1), port);

It seems your port 3458 is engaged with something else, com_1 sounds
like a serial port.

X86 does say com_1, my mistake. You probably need to use m5term,
rather than telnet.

Hello,

I used m5trem instead of telnet.

So i opened two terminals

In the first terminal i typed the command:
sudo build/x86/gem5.opt configs/example/fs.py
--kernel=/home/wael/Mac/gem5/binaries/x86_64-vmlinux-2.6.22.9
--script=configs/boot/ammp.rcS

The obtained output:
